It's a grand. The first thing I found on my bench just now was a small finish nail setter. I laid the damper in the cradle of my needle nose pliers with the wire through the open jaw and tapped it out. Then I ground some of the taper off the nail set with the bench grinder so I could tap the wire out far enough to spin it out gently without making the hole in the head bigger. When I get the replacement wire, I guess I just make a reamer out of the bottom part of the wire to size the guide rail bushing, press it in the head and cut to length. Bend. Presto!
