Yes, absolutely true. Now to follow this up, when tapered pins were used, did 
they drill a tapered hole ? My experience suggests the real problem with 
tapered pins is the sudden "grab" you get when pounding a tapered pin into a 
tapered hole. Mabye this is why they fell out of favor, you really need to hammer 
intelligently. Even then leveling up pins for height produces wildly variable 
torques.
