Hello Phil,
The Steinway you speak of is a
" round tail A " slang !! with 85 notes.
It has a "hook" bridge that carries two
two string and seven three string unisons
all wrapped.
Many believe that this was the piano
that "made" Steinway. Its, production began
in 1878. The first of the 88 note models
were built in 1892.
The "Square" tail A,s without the hook
bridge began production in 1896/97. This
A was discontinued in 1913.
In 1913 the 6'4" A was put into
production then discontinued in 1947.
As a side note many, including me, think
this was a mistake a bad mistake.
The 6'4" A is now being built in Germany.
