Plugs we make with Delignit wood for pin blocks. The tools to produce the
plugs and the Forster bit are sold by Renner or Jahn.
There are 2 sizes , one can fit in the plate hole (10 mm) the other is to be
used in blocks.

The best answer to avoid block replacement, for cracked old blocks in antics
pianos - and to avoid oversized pins locally applied on some Asian ones.
Glued with Titebond. I appreciate the trick in a Yamaha C3 on a small range
of pins (no plate dismounting).

See no reason why it should be so bad, nowadays it is really good for the
final price paid.

I stopped to think complete restoration when it comes to older pianos, but
providing a service, that is what customers are waiting for.
Good medicine !

                Hey Terry
I've only done one of these & if I were doing it again I'd plug it
again. I don't beleive it's possible for me to duplicate all that case
mortising without compromising all that original structural integrity , nor
do I want to. Besides plugging is fairly painless once you get set up & with
good maple plugs feels like, well.... A good maple block
       Dale

And have you looked at any of these plugged blocks ten years after? Twenty
years? I have. That's why I still duplicate the original. With a little
practice it's not really all that big a deal.
