I prefer a heat gun. I use a Wagner HT3000 ( I think) variable control, gets very hot. It also can be placed nicely on the bench with the heat projecting upward. Put it on high and move the key back and forth over the heat (15 - 20 seconds) until you can get something sharp under the back edge and pry it up. They should come off pretty easily. If you need to take off the fronts you can do the same thing. Adjust the heat so that it's as hot as it will get without burning anything.

Subject: best way to get plastic keytops off?

HI list,

This question was asked a few days ago, but the thread ended up being about gluing tops on.

The piano is a SAmick made Kohler and Campbell. It is maybe 15 years old. One keytop got broken in a recent move.

So what sayeth you all? Steam/Iron? Heat Gun? Other methods?

This is an in-home job(long drive, store warranty work), so using large power tools is not an option.

Thanks. Sorry if I missed something on the last thread!
