Terry,

Methinks he is referring to the loop/single unisons.  As I recall, the 
single is on the left on some and the right for other unisons...

...yup, just checked on the one here.  Tenor bridge has singles on the bass 
side up to where they are no longer under the bass strings, then it goes 
back and forth left/right _3_ times  in about 8 unisons. Top two 
sections  are loops.

Basically, it looks like the great effort is made to keep all the waste 
lengths parallel all the way from bridge to hitchpin.

German loops are coiled different directions depending on whether they are 
on the left or right, just to make the wires parallel.
