I just gotta say, Horowitz was unique, but his later recordings didnt' sound 
like anybody was in control, at all.  The tone out of that piano sounded like 
a tin can!   
  I played that piano before it was "restored".  Even at pp, the sound was 
brittle and thin.  I know artists can do magical things with instruments, but if 
the tone isn't there, nobody is going to produce it.
