Another factor maybe that the person selling the piano was very attractive (I saw her picture on her website). Its possible that his judgement was a little skewed by his desire to please the seller. Pure conjecture <G>! Some people mistake popularity and activity within the guild as a sure sign of technical compentancy. But out here we have seen *very* questionable work from members who were *very* successful within the organization. No, of course I won't name any names. Of course, some techs are reputable just because they've been in business a long time--not really based on their quality of work or ethics. Although one would think that the dishonest ones would run out of customers, but there's always a new victim to be found.
