Renner bushings and graphite:(was Lubrication as a wear preventative.)

I know that the flange bushing cloth that they sell in strips has adhesive on one side and what certainly looks like graphite on the other.

In looking at new Renner parts I can clearly see that
some liquid was applied to the felt bushings. There
is a bit of red color bleeding out into the
surrounding wood, and I clearly see some dark stuff on
the felt as well.
