Hi Diane, You won't get 2.5V from any AA battery. When I used to replace the battery in my SAT, I used a battery pack from Radio Shack. The internal charging circuit in the SAT, utilizes the 9V supply to give the original type batteries, the proper charge, even although the voltage from the batteries is less. Hoping this makes sense. There is an internal, secondary battery, and a capacitor inside, that may also need to be replaced. They are used to keep the RAM memory which is required for the program. If it dropped below the hold on voltage, you will have to send it back to Inventronics, to be reprogrammed. Regards, John M.
