Most folks don't, and I didn't either for a number of years.

Likewise. How many of your own replacement strings have broken and needed
to be replaced?

I haven't seen all that many either. The other reasons I listed are the my
main reasons for taking this approach.

According to Baldwin folks I've talked to, that's correct. I'm not trying
to convert anyone here. I've just offered the reasons that I do it. No two
techs on the planet live in the same world, so there are going to be
different priorities, dictating different approaches.
