Yamaha Butt Spring Cords Replacement

Has anyone actually seen the butt springs get damaged?

Let me play devil's advocate for a moment. I know the questions some piano
owners will ask.....

It's hard for me to imagine how they would actually get damaged. And then
what if they did get a little bent up - the owner was happy with how the
piano was working without them - what problem will it cause if they do get
bent?
