is wouldn't the moisture in the cloth coming in contact with the strings
cause them to rust?

I am scheduled to do this procedure Wednesday and would appreciate your
responses."

Rick et al,
Hence my objection to this book. IMO, it has a lot of bad and/or
mis-information, that could lead to beginners having major problems.
The first thing, is, don't use a soundboard steel! Get the tools from Bill
Spurlock. These work and don't scratch the finish on the S.B. Second, don't
use vinegar! Vinegar is an acid! (Duh!) It will attack the steel/brass. A
soft cotton cloth wrapped around the Spurlock tools, that has is SLIGHTLY
dampened with water and mild soap, is more than adequate. Follow up with a
DRY cotton cloth, ASAP. i.e. don't let the moisture set on the
strings/board, etc....Dry them off! Also, the miniature vacuum attachments,
meant for computers, are great to get into those tiny crevasses. A
kindergarten paint brush is also excellent to brush out the crud. It will
last waaaay longer than any other type of paint brush I've used.
