I figured a small one not much bigger than the key would be easier to slide around under the cutter (especially for an old guy). <G> I use a small machinist's vise with a little jig to holding that I clamp the key in before pushing it under the planer. This gives the key a lot more stability than hand holding. It would also be a simple matter to modify that set up for tapering.
