Hello Quentin,

Alfred Dolge was a great piano technician who wrote a book with the=20
title : Pianos and their makers (Dover 0-486-22856-8).
On the back of the book we read :

The late Alfred Dolge was one of the most remarkable figures in the=20
history of the piano. First trained in the German piano industry of the=20=

1860's, he continued to work and study under the great Mathusek upon=20
coming to the United States. He went into business for himself,=20
manufacturing hammers and other components (eventually founding the=20
piano town of Dolgeville, N.Y.), and achieved an international=20
reputation as a manufacturer, designer, and inventot of piano-making=20
machinery. In adfdition to being one of the top technicians in the=20
world, he had a unique circle of business and personal acquaintance,=20
with everyone of importance in pianos in both Europe and America, on a=20=

level which no outsider could ever attain. All this accumulated in=20
Pianos and Their Makers (1911)
