Two questions;

Why so many coils? My lever tip will not fit properly with the coils so =
high.

Were you not supposed (or requested from down under) to check the =
curvature of the soundboard first?

  Hello Listers
These four photos show my method of restringing.
  1. The wrest pin punch with "distance stop" of a cocktail stick taped =
to the punch. Also shows the long-nosed pliers used to crimp in the =
kneb.
  2. That punch in action.
  3. The small vise-grips hold the hitch bend in position whilst =
cranking the string on the wrest pin.
  4. The hardwood dowell with round head screw guide with wrest pin in =
and crank ready to put six coils on. French chalk is used to ensure the =
pin does not react jerkily to tuning.
My string maker, Gregor Heller, advises me to "get those bass strings =
on pdq. In manufactur they are under tension and increase their lenght =
by 8mm. Left un tensioned for any length of time results in poor tonal =
quality. Right now they are hanging in a bunch from the workshop roof.
  That's all for now
  Michael G.(UK)
