---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment John, I too took that course. Hang around here and you=20 will learn a lot more. Join the guild and attend=20 meetings and regional conferences and it will happen faster. As for fourths and fifths versus thirds and=20 sixths: use the first to rough in your=20 temperament and follow with the latter to refine=20 it. Think of setting the temperament as a multi=20 pass endeavor where the quality improves each=20 time. Getting it perfect the first pass doesn't=20 work well and is a waste of time. A book to get from the guild is "On Pitch" by=20 Rick Baldassin. It is foundational to an=20 understanding of what it is you are doing and how=20 to become expert at it. The course is inadequate=20 on this topic (in the form I had it) and=20 Reblitz's book is not comprehensive on each topic=20 it covers. Not to put it down, just to=20 acknowledge that there are space constraints when=20 writing a book that covers just about everything about pianos. ;-) Diane Hofsteter worked to develop a set of=20 ear-caps (as opposed to plugs) that are ideal for=20 our work. Her address on my 'cap' box is=20 dpno2ur@yahoo.com or 360-699-1626 She moved=20 recently; I think this is the new address. If anyone knows better, speak= up.
