My VT battery experience

Last year I was experiencing the same symptoms as
Terry - charge not seeming to take, indicator showing
one or no bars, sometimes the VT would shut off during
a tuning. After trying the run-down/re-charge
procedure to no avail, I bought a new battery from VT
for about $89.

Then I learned the new charge procedure for the
updated firmware version that was installed earlier
that year. If I had known this earlier, maybe I could
have squeezed a fifth year out of the battery.

The procedure is this: Plug in the charger, then as
soon as the blinking light goes off, turn on the VT.
The startup screen appears for a few moments, but then
the screen goes blank except for a small icon in the
center that blinks every few seconds. This indicates
that the battery is charging, and also indicates that
the program that monitors the charge is working.

When Dave tried to explain this procedure before I
bought the new battery, I thought it was only an
optional thing - in case I wanted to see the icon. But
now I realize it is necessary for proper functioning.
