Tuning price

This is all well and good-- EXCEPT-- here in Door County, WI there are two
RPT's who both charge $50 for a tuning. I am apprenticing with one of them
and he charges $75 a tuning down in Lake Geneva- which is 4 hours away. The
rate in Green Bay-- which is an hour away-- is $75. But, the local rate
here just does not creep up. I am not an RPT but hope to be someday
soon...but it doesn't make sense for me to charge more than the RPT's. What
can I do? I agree that it is too cheap.

It seems UTTERLY apparent that those who get soooooo upset that others
"don't charge enough", are REALLY upset because they're losing business to
those techs that charge LESS for the "same" service. I happen to agree that
many "tooners" are charging rediculously low fees, whch does make some of us
feel the need to justify our higher fees; I do not feel that need. My work
speaks for itself and my referals prove it. There are some piano owners out
there (probably quite a few) who want to spend the absolute LEAST amount of
money as possible, and IMHO you can have them. Of course, I try never miss
the opportuninty to educate potential and yes, IGNORANT (of their pianos, of
course) clients as to the care and feeding of their instruments.
