Damper squeak

My only experience with the heat-shrink Teflon is on front rail key pins. My suggestion to use it on the damper lift rod was speculative only. I would think putting it on the whole length would be the easiest. If it will slide on, somehow.

You'd have to take the added thickness of the pin in to consideration when bushing...it lasts huh? Interesting idea...don't think I've ever heard of it before...?
How do you use it with the dampers? On the spoons? Missed that...on the lifter rod? How do you apply it? In pieces where the levers hit?

Jack, I don't know the source, but it may be available thru electronics supply places. Ed McMurrrow gets his supply by the giant box load. I remember asking him one time...never got an answer. Guess some research is in order. They are clear in color, by the way. Size is just a little bigger than a front keypin to start.

Basically you put it on like you do any shrink wrap. Apply high heat like a propane torch to shrink. Only difference is this stuff is Teflon.

Oh, yes, for front key pins, you need to make sure they're all at the same height. Then cut a length of Teflon tubing so that the top will almost come together over the top of the key pin. Duplicate 87 more times. (That will keep the bushing from coming in contact with the edge of the Teflon sleeve.) Slicker than snot on a doorknob!

    Hi Joseph,

Could you tell me more about heat-shrink Teflon? Where do you get it? How do you apply it?

    Thanks,

Just a thought. Since the rod is evidently corroding to some degree, causing the stickiness and squeaking , could heat-shrink Teflon be used on the rod to permanently solve this problem? I know that Ed McMurrow uses it on front rail keypins with great success.
