Funny you should mention that. At a local chapter meeting technical a while back, the technical topic was prepping the new Steinway. One of the items covered was voicing. The Steinway tech said that usually there will be an area in the fifth or sixth octave that is weaker than the rest of the piano - that is the voicing target - you voice the rest of the piano down to match that weak area.
