The service manual for Baldwin pianos states very clearly that if the sostenuto brackets need to be moved horizontally, do NOT shim them to change their position horizontally. Instead ( at least on older pianos without adjusting screws ) they want us to bend the brass or aluminum brackets. Bending brackets seems to me a hazardous method - especially on older pianos where the metal may be brittle. What harm is there in putting a thin piece of card stock behind the bracket to shim it out if need be?? John Fortiner -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
