Don't know about the price, but I expect it's similar in bulk, 
or more expensive than leather. Unlike leather, Ecsaine is 
uniform in thickness, nap, and stretch, and comes in 54cm x 
20M rolls. Not even Cowzilla gets that big. So Ecsaine waste 
is probably near zero in piano manufacturing use, unlike 
leather hides, and requires a lot less processing before use. 
It also wears at least as well as leather in the piano, and 
isn't reactive to moisture.

Other than that, I don't know.   <G>
