David,

My experience with this brand hammer is limited, but I've never needed more than a couple (i.e. 2 or 3) drops of dilute hardener on the strikepoint in the bass or high treble. Learned a neat technique for applying small amounts from Wally Brooks in his tone building class in Rochester: Apply the hardener to a spare hammer, then press it against the hammer you want to harden.

I've got a gallon of MacLac. I've got a set of Ronsen Wurzens that need something in the low bass...and some of the treble is weak. For the bass, should I soak the bottom hammers with a 6 to 1 solution are just the shoulders? How about the treble?

I use MacLac which is a higher solids lacquer than Steinway uses so the dilution is greater (6 or 7:1). Since Steinway is now predipping their hammers I dont know what I would use. Im rapidly moving away from hammers that require lacquer, especially unknown quantities.

I'm about to voice my first set of new Steinway hammers (with the help of Mr Bondi). I've checked the archives, and found reference to a source for the lacquer to use, I think it was David Love, but did not find the source mentioned. Can anyone tell me where to find the appropriate lacquer?

THanks
