Julia writes: << Because of the really fine cabinet veneer work and the condition of the action parts, is this piano worth a new bass bridge?..or do only Steinways hold their value and are worthy of such work? >> New bass bridges cost "X" to install. Assume new bass strings, so it is "X+". What kind of a piano could they get for X+ plus the trade in of this one? It is not so hard to justify repair work on fine pianos, and Steinway is NOT the only fine piano out there. If the pinblock is shot, and the board is dead, then maybe it is a better bargain to have a new soundboard and block installed than just putting a bass bridge in. It all depends on how much piano does the customer want. As technicians, we certainly should not be fearful of selling technical services to our customers.
