Michelle hit the nail on the head. The manufacturers are inflating their MSRP's. Most of this is to pull the same game on the dealers, as the deceptive dealers are pulling on their customers: an inflated price which allows room for more discounting - discounting which doesn't actually exist. A manufacturer may suddenly inflate their MSRP drastically, to allow room for more discounting to dealers in an effort to sell more pianos. Customers want discounts, and that has to be fudged in somewhere. Yamaha has somehow instituted a minimum selling price, and as of yet hasn't been called on it. Of course I don't know the details, and assume everything about it is on the "up and up" legally. The C3's MSRP is significantly higher than many will sell it for, but apparently that is going to start changing. It's hard for the dealer who prices the instrument fairly to begin with, and then runs into the customer who thinks an additional 15 or 25% off of this is acceptable, and fair to both parties.
