Viennese restoration

Dear Greg and others,

We can argue points of "Reconditioning" vs. "Restoration", the PTG official definitions and the range of what really happens elsewhere...e.g. I discuss this in one of the talks I give. An in development talk will deal with Viennese actions and Viennese piano restoration, so Greg I beg some patience on this topic but will come through for you. The Viennese talk only exists in my head and in my notebooks at this point. I already have a presentation I have used for PTG local groups on dealing with antique pianos and restoration, rebuilding, reconditioning, and preservation issues. So, stay tuned. Too busy right now completing some projects for anxious clients.

Regarding the piano immediately in question, it has the original action, properly restored. Why would I want to put an action with incorrect geometry for the design into one of these pianos?

As I said before, we have successfully installed QRS systems, including recently, completely successfully. There are only some slight modifications from normal installation, but it does involve truly understanding how the player systems work on the action. I've just been a bit fed up with QRS the last 6 months...not answering phone calls, not sending out parts and manuals when they say they have, etc., etc. Therefore I was considering PianoDisc.

Enough for now, I have work to do!

Very best, Anne

Anne,
I would appreciate an info you could share with me on how to perform an effective restoration or re-manufacturing of these instruments. I have 3 of them that are currently holding the floor down in my shop. I really don't know what to do with them. Is there any place that you could steer me for more info?

Best,
Greg Newell
