Do you think my diagnosis is logical, or might this just be a POS piano that they would be better off replacing, rather than throwing money into? >> Greetings, You are not throwing much money away and given the expense of the alternatives, treatment has long odds going for it. precedent indicates you will be able to tune easily after you CA that block, so figure hourly rate for all your time : from sitting at that computer getting information going to get the fresh, water-thin CA glue. The time to pull the action out, paper the keybed, and squirt $20 bucks or so of CA in all the pin holes. Use a fan, by th e time you are finished, you can start back tuning. This can be a lucrative (best part), long-term, economical treatment for any tech and a lifesaver to many people with these old pianos. No need to scrap the marginal piano, it can be kept in service and tuned. Regards, Ed Foote RPT http://www.uk-piano.org/edfoote/index.html www.uk-piano.org/edfoote/well_tempered_piano.html
