One of these two things does appear to be the problem. Both have been lubed, but a different lubricant is needed on whichever one is causing it...

I would re-check all of the damper springs. Also make sure the lift rod is well lube.

I didn't mention that I could get the mechanism to squeak...with the action outside of the piano. It is definitely something in the action itself.

I am convinced that whatever felt is on the damper levers is getting too much friction from the damper lift rod. I will try the McLube suggestion from Paul McCloud.

It isn't case parts, of that I am sure. Everything else has been lubricated and/or tightened.

Dave,

If this piano has a pedal prop bolt that connects the trap lever to the pedal itself, check where the bolt runs through the pedal. I have encountered squeaky groans at that interface, when the bolt rubs on the sides of the hole in the pedal. My remedy is to remove the pedal, enlarge the hole slightly, and bush it with leather.

Best,

 Hi All,

I thought I could solve any damper pedal mechanism squeak, and up until recently, I've had pretty good luck. Then I met a recent model Hallet-Davis (Dongbei built, I believe) upright.

I lubricated and tightened everything I could think of.
