You have other options, though, as both Missouri and Illinois subsidize Amtrak trains, so coming through St. Louis, you can arrive in KC at 2:10 PM or 7:10 PM ... and if you browse the weekly specials on Amtrak's website, you'll find that these trains are almost always deeply discounted there!
