I got to be fairly good with loops, replacing bass strings on a Kraus(s) piano. They were pretty and I trimmed off all the excess wire sticking out..................................... So, by the time I made the loops for the SECOND set (the hitch pins being too large for string companies to match the loop size) I had become fairly efficient. I used a nail in a vise. les b -----Original Message----- From: pianotech-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:pianotech-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Philip Jamison Sent: Saturday, December 23, 2006 10:06 AM To: pianotech at ptg.org Subject: String Loops and Eyes I've never restrung any european pianos, so I haven't had to form quantities of string eyes or loops. If I did, I would probably twist them around a metal rod held in a vise. The "String Looping" device sold by Schaff and others seems to put too much strain on the strings to me. Are there any jigs for looping strings in the English/Vienesse style?
