Hi All
Dean said "most of my clientele they have no idea what the PTG =
is".---And who's fault is this Dean? I am not picking on you Dean. This =
is exactly the point I was making.---It is up to the individual members =
to talk up PTG membership and we don't do it. If we don't do it =
ourselves it just isn't going to happen.
"What if we dropped the "benefit" of allowing associates to advertise =
their membership with PTG? For those that only want to advertise their =
association with the PTG, it might give them a little more motivation to =
take the test." -------It was this way for many years until "we again =
shot ourselves in the foot"
A number of years ago, during our National in Philadelphia, I glanced =
in the yellow pages. They had a heading telling what RPT and PTG meant =
and a listing of the RPT's in that area with phone numbers. I thought =
it was terrific. I don't know if this would be available on a national =
program but I think it is worth exploring if it hasn't already been =
done.
As far as priority, We have been jacking around with this for 20 =
years or longer. It is time to get it fixed.

You have yet to demonstrate what the crisis is and why we have to "do =
something." Of course it is a problem, but is it really such a crisis =
that we have to start talking about government intervention??
It seems like your biggest beef is that associates can advertise =
themselves as being members of PTG. I've also heard that complaint from =
many others. Personally I don't advertise my status with PTG. For most =
of my clientele they have no idea what the PTG is. For those who do =
know, advertising myself as an associate is advertising myself as a =
non-RPT. I see no benefit in advertising my associate status.=20
What if we dropped the "benefit" of allowing associates to advertise =
their membership with PTG? For those that only want to advertise their =
association with the PTG, it might give them a little more motivation to =
take the test.=20

Hi People
Until the day comes that the public becomes educated, aware and =
demands expertise and professional performance or heaven forbid the =
government becomes involved and demands licensing such as that demanded =
for other trades such as plumbers and electricians, we are just =
lighting a fire under and empty skillet. Now that anyone can show =
themselves as a member of PTG and we have come up with "Registered" =
members, which no one has the slightest idea about instead off craftsman =
ratings or some other descriptive rating there is only one motivation =
and that is from within.. Unfortunately not very many seem to have this =
motivation or pride in their work and profession. Whether we are RPTs, =
Certified Tuner Technicians,or craftsman, getting the message out is up =
to we individual technicians and most of us are busy and have become =
very complacent about the problem. To me Certified says a whole lot more =
than registered. I'm "Registered" to vote in Florida and we all know =
what that means but obviously some don't know how to do it.
We as PTG just continue to shoot ourselves in the foot on this issue. =
Something needs to be done and it needs to become a priority.

Standing back and taking a long look at the number of associates =
who have not upgraded, how about a personal approach on a chapter level? =
Though there needs to be good incentives to move to RPT status, would a =
one-on-one, face-to-face conversation with each associate by another =
chapter member, officer or not, would yeild more results than all the =
machinations from higher up? Find out personally if the member has =
interest in upgrading, and if so, how can the chapter help to move =
him/her in that direction? There are some who have no interest and will =
never be an RPT for whatever reason. However, they still want to be a =
part of the organization. That may always be. But the associates who =
plan to become RPT's perhaps can best be served by a dialogue in person, =
privately, quietly, from another member, and that person could also be =
his/her mentor through the process. Flame suit on and ready.....
