Plastic Hammers?

Greetings,

       A guy told me this morning at a job that a technician installed 
plastic piano hammers in his mother;s spinet.
I find this hard to take as true, howver he insisted they actually were 
plastic hammers. TYhis person was not a tech, he was the church organist. Anyone 
hear of plastic hammers??
