Another good guess me thinks... As I read his querry... something is essentially causing the distance between the tail and the back check to decrease after some few heavy blows to the key. Just on a hunch... why not check to see if you have some binding in the balance rail pin / pin hole. Check for both tightness of the hole and whether or not front to back motion of the key the full distance of the key stroke is completely free of any binding from the hole. Interesting tidbit this :) Cheers RicB ------ Hmmm. Speculative diagnostic fantasy #2: the keys are chucking front- to-back, and it takes the 10-15 hard blows to work the keys back a bit and in so doing the backchecks gradually move to bind the hammers?
