David,
You obviously were not paying attention during Fred's class. I own Fred Drasche's Tool, which I acquired during a Silent Auction at one of the nationals. Fred Autographed i!<G> I use it often. As for a picture, I'm on my new 'puter, so I don't have the ability to scan the tool. I'll try to do that ASAP, on my "98", that has the scanner.

Come on Joe...what is the proper tool? And how do you use it? Picture? I don't remember any specific tool when I took a sost class from Fred Drasche, except for a long piece of brass rod he used to tap in the sost brackets from the keyboard side...

RicB said: "Like most others I suspect the rod is just a bit too low. Just recheck
the regulation of the whole thing. Set the angle of the blade to 45? by
adjusting the pedal, then set the height of the rod so that when you
look at it through the the action cavity it makes a straight line with
the middle of the tabs. Finnally line up the for and aft position
looking from above. It should show about 1.5 to 2 mm distance from the
tabs at rest.

Once the rod is regulated correctly, you can determine if there is
anything needed with respect to the tabs"

People,
What's with all this? You need to have the proper TOOL for checking the sostenuto. It is available from Steinway. Sheesh! But then, ya need to know how it is used.<G>
