Hi Barbara, The undercover works 24/7; the top cover works when the lid is not fully closed. Would you rather have something that works always--or something that works part time--and when it is *most* needed (i.e. at a concert) is possible removed? I'm all for string covers--just that it is less important than the bottom cover.
