Paul,
    Why not consider a rebuilt  D from one of our "State of the art rebuilders "
    Ron Nossaman, Dale Erwin, Jude Reveley, David Anderson and others .Instead of a beat piano with who knows what issues, you get a piano that has been maximized for performance .
    If you were at the Rochester rebuilders showcase in 2006 you would know what I mean.
    As for Warranty -It is not a dealer warranty --it is a manufacturers warranty and our friends in N.Y. have never had a piano that needed warranty service anyway. 
    Just my opinion.

  My church is shopping for a concert grand.  I understand that many major manufacturers provide new pianos for concerts, recitals, etc., and then after five years or so, sell these pianos through dealers for a substantial discount, compared to the cost of a brand new one.  I have heard the term "C&A" (Concert and Artist) applied to Steinway Ds; I assume this is what that term means.

  Questions:

  1.  Any reason NOT to buy such a piano?  I wouldn't expect it to be perfect cosmetically, I can live with a few scratches and dings here and there.

  2.  How much should we expect to pay?  Is say, 75% of the price of a new one a reasonable amount?  Or would 50-60% be more like it?

  3.  Could we expect the dealer to provide the same warranty we would get for a brand new one?
