when you come to an old upright for the first time, and remember to get a  
firm grip on the lid as you open it
so that it doesn't go crashing to the floor because of missing lid  
hinges/hinge pins. Also,when you could
rate the quality of a new customer's piano just by his/her voice over the  
phone. Also, when you can eyeball  music wire and tell exactly what size it  is 
without using a micrometer.
