Bechstein Bass Strings

Hi Alan, I suggest that your choice of words was not quite on the ball. I
think you 'beat the CRAP' out of them.
Old bass string accumulate lots of dirt and gunk from the atmosphere and
doing what you did, disposes of it all. I have always boiled the old bass
strings using pure soap, prior to restringing, then give them a good rub
with stainless steel wool, they come up as new both in sound and looks.
