Grin... I love your specificity Jon ! 

Elstewize I have to say that there were really so very many really good 
sounding / performing instruments made on both sides of the pond round 
or just after the turn of the century its kind of hard to even think 
about <<the best>>.  Seems like one can say that the best period in 
piano building has past.... despite the fact that we have a more full 
body of scientific "knowledge" about what pianos are about.  The 
empircal knowledge base that had so very large a pool to grow on has 
largely disappeared.... and with it a lot of seat of the pants knowhow.  
And with out that... all the math models in the world are of little use.

    I would however place S&S uprights and Acrosonic spinets in the same
    sentence.
