I responded to an e-mail that listed the tools the author uses to install
Dampp Chasers, and I added the gimlet to the list. After sending my reply,
I surfed to find them through Google. Up came 1,143,239 -give or take- ways
to make a gimlet.the vodka drink, not the tool. Digging through the
recipes, I found it: Amazon.com and Amazon Marketplace. Its order number
is: MMSS 3 MM 3 Screw Starter, for $5.04. Amazon Marketplace lists it the
same way for $3.27. The manufacturer is Great Neck Tool Co. If two sources
are good, three must be better: VanDykes Restorers, item number 02212407 for
$5.49. They call it a "screw hole starter." Sometimes they can be found in
established hardware stores. Talk to the "associate" with some gray hair,
wrinkles, callused hands and the faint odor of sawn pine from his clothes.

If you enjoy "antiquing," you can probably find one or many more for about
$1.00. No one seems to know what a gimlet is or how to use it, me included
until my "ooOOOooh" moment occurred.

For what its worth.
