William,
Glad to hear you are stepping up to a milling machine, once you have
mastered it you'll say "why didn't I do this decades ago" scratching your
head. When it comes to milling machines stay with domestic machines, the
stuff made "over there" is junk. Bridgeport Milling Machines can be had for
a few thousand dollars and will accurately serve a lifetime. Benchtop models
will buy you a lot of accuracy but wont save much time over the table saw or
router jig (Genesis or Spurlock) unless you fixture it for multiple keys
which is very hard to do and you are limited in size, hence "benchtop". Keys
are my life, I currently have 3 large milling machines with one dedicated to
removing keytops only, fixtured up for 8 at a time to within 0.001 of an
inch, I'm finalizing the purchase of a CNC Milling Machine now and will
fixture it up to perform miracles to within 0.001 of an inch, wish me luck,
I wish you luck, remember the keytop is the major focal point of the piano,
the keytop is your interactive medium with the piano and the keyboard is the
foundation of a well playing action. A good keyboard will sell the
instrument.
