Just for information here are 2 photos of what is left of a block from a S&S B (1979). The pins had been punched down and the lower parts broke loose. Unfortunately, the tuner were not aware of the partly drilled process.

I think "did" would be the more proper tense. I have only seen this
on older models. I have seen it on a Hagspield and a Wolfframm. these were
both older German pianos.
