John:

Actually the "chemistry" of your ear causes the soft material Etymotic
uses to shrink. After spending the money to get several new ones made,
I had my audiologist make me some from harder hearing aid type material
and I've had them for many years.

I just ordered some regular plugs last week. For at least seven
years, I've been using the custom-fit plugs with ER inserts. They
have worked great, but are not fitting as well now. (Ears change
shape slightly as we age.)

Rather than spending $150+ for the custom-fit ones, I thought I'd try
the others for $12.00. I don't know if I have smaller ear canals or
not. If the regulars don't fit, I guess I do. :)

Anyone used the generic ones long enough to know their longevity?
