I not only was a private contractor to the local Kawai dealer, we also have
a very active Yamaha dealer in this area and we had two RPT's that had a
Samick dealership! Good friends of mine! So I'm very conversant &
knowledgable regarding asian grands and their construction and faults.

I personally find it a smart concept, to string without the outer rim but
then I'm sure none of you have EVER had a string, tool or other metal object
slip and gouge the newly refinished inner rim of a piano you were
re-stringing!
Yes, I know all about covering it with various things but those things can
move ot slip, think how much easier it would be if it weren't there!
