I have an old Broadwood square that has tapered pins. You'd think you could bang them in deeper for better holding power... but it doesnt work. As far as I know, Vose had tapered pins up to the time the depression in 1930 did them in. Don't know about Bosendorfer. Tapered holes with parallel sided pins as about the worst fit you could come up with for tuning pins in a pinblock - unless they're drilled from underneath. Ron N
