radical vertical piano soft pedal regulation

Lost motion isn't reduced. It might not have even changed. The keys are traveling 3mm and rotating the whippen to elevate the jack under the hammer butt. Whether the lost motion is correct is questionable. What isn't questionable is the results of the loss of 3mm of key travel.

I've got a Steinway F console that is currently adjusted so that the soft
pedal evenly pulls all the keys down about 3mm. The benefit is that lost
motion is reduced; I don't really see a downside. Is there any??
