The Moores School of Music proudly announces *Jessica Wei Zhu* winning first
prize in the Collegiate Young Artist Piano Competition sponsored by the
Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Ms. Zhu is a junior piano major
from the studio of Nancy Weems. The national finals were held in Denver,
Colorado, at the national convention of the MTNA on March 31, 2008. In order
to compete in the final level of the competition, Ms. Zhu won both the Texas
state level competition and the South Central Division competition of MTNA.
Seven finalists from across the nation were invited to compete in the final
event. The grand prize includes possible concert appearances, as well as a
Steinway grand piano.

MTNA collegiate chapters provide educational, musical, social and
professional experiences that augment the student's formal course of study,
acquaint students with professional opportunities and career options in the
field of music, and develop professional leadership skills.

Had never heard of a winner receiving a Steinway!
