Remove the wippens, avoid complications. Chances are
that if the felt is worn, so is the catcher buckskin. Again,
remove the shanks. Do not risk damaging the pinning
or flanges.

Might as well replace the bridle straps while you're at it
and file the hammers because they won't mate to the old string cuts.

Now that the center section is done...
