In too many cases, it's a universe of lowered expectations.

Not the ones I've seen. My customers usually complain of poor repetition
which makes selling the job easier. I just think it means most school
teachers live in an alternate universe.

I guess my point is that if over 100 teachers never had an issue with those
spring loops, it is possible that the Yamaha action is at least modestly
adequate without them. Of course I was very aware the school district would
never approve replacing them, never. They hardly wanted to pay for broken
strings, or hammers kids ripped off........

I tuned ten years for a school district with mostly Yamaha uprights. 90% of
them had broken spring loops. NEVER did I once have any teacher complain
about how the action worked. I told a few teachers early on, but they
didn't care, and the school district didn't want to pay for it, so it didn't
get done, and no one was complaining at the time I quit.

    Les,

Respectfully ---what is your point here?

The broken cords diminish repetition and allow the springs to occasionally
click on the damper levers and bend.

If we waited for the players to direct our recommendations we would all be
out looking for other employment.

   Best wishes,

 Tom Driscoll
